4. How and why we use personal information
Processing and delivering orders
We use customer and recipient details to process payments, prepare and personalise orders, arrange delivery, send order updates and manage cancellations, returns or refunds.
For customer information, our lawful basis is that the processing is necessary to perform our contract with you.
For gift-recipient information, we rely on our legitimate interest in fulfilling the customer's order and delivering the requested gift.
Customer service
We use contact details, order history and communications to answer questions, resolve problems and handle complaints.
Our lawful basis is performing our contract with you or our legitimate interest in providing effective customer service.
Legal, tax and accounting requirements
We retain appropriate transaction and business records to comply with our legal, tax, accounting and regulatory obligations.
Our lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation.
Security and fraud prevention
We may use transaction, device and technical information to secure the website, verify transactions, prevent fraud and establish or defend legal claims.
Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in protecting our customers, our business and our legal rights. We may also process this information to comply with legal obligations.
Improving the website and services
We may use limited technical and performance information to identify errors, maintain the website and improve the customer experience.
Where consent is legally required for any optional technology used for this purpose, that technology will not be activated until the required choice has been made.
Marketing
We do not currently offer a marketing subscription or send promotional emails or text messages.
If we introduce marketing communications in the future, we will update this policy and provide appropriate information when customers subscribe. Where required, we will obtain consent before sending marketing messages.
We may still send necessary service messages relating to orders, payments, deliveries, refunds and customer enquiries. These are not marketing communications.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer, telephone or other device when you visit a website. Similar technologies may include local storage, pixels and tags.
How we use cookies
The website uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to:
- Keep products in your shopping basket.
- Maintain your website and checkout session.
- Process orders and payments.
- Remember essential checkout and account information.
- Protect the website and customers against fraud and misuse.
- Support secure card payments, authentication and fraud prevention through Stripe.
Strictly necessary cookies are required for the website or a service requested by the visitor to work properly. These cookies may be used without consent where the law permits, but we still provide information about their use.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies through your browser may prevent the basket, account, checkout or payment functions from working correctly.
Stripe cookies and similar technologies
We use Stripe to process payments and help prevent fraudulent transactions. Stripe may collect transactional information and information about the device connecting to its services, including through cookies and similar technologies.
Stripe uses this information to provide payment services, authenticate transactions, prevent and detect fraud and loss, and monitor the performance and security of its payment services.
You can learn more in Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Optional cookies
We do not currently use cookies for targeted advertising or operate our own advertising-tracking system.
If optional analytics, advertising or other non-essential cookies are introduced in the future, we will update this policy and provide an appropriate consent control before those cookies are activated.
Managing cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the website works.
If a cookie preference control is displayed on the website, you can use it to accept, reject or change your choices for any optional cookies. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled through that control because the website cannot function correctly without them.
Our use of cookies will be reviewed whenever the website, payment services or other connected services are materially changed.
6. Who we share personal information with
Where necessary, we may share personal information with:
- Our website, ecommerce, hosting and IT-service providers, including providers supporting the WordPress and WooCommerce online shop and Nettl-managed hosting.
- Stripe, which securely processes customer payments and provides payment authentication and fraud-prevention services.
- Banks and card-payment networks involved in processing payments.
- Warehousing, fulfilment, courier and delivery providers.
- Customer-support, email and communications providers.
- Accountants, insurers, professional advisers and auditors.
- Fraud-prevention and security providers.
- Government bodies, regulators, courts or law-enforcement agencies where required by law.
- A buyer, investor or successor if we sell, transfer or reorganise all or part of our business.
We require service providers to protect personal information and use it only for authorised purposes.
We do not sell personal information.
We share the recipient's name, delivery address and relevant contact details with the courier or delivery provider selected to fulfil the order. The provider used may vary depending on the parcel's contents, size, destination, value and delivery service.
7. International transfers
Some website, hosting, payment and technology providers may process or allow access to personal information outside the United Kingdom, even though we currently sell and deliver only within the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred outside the UK, we take steps to ensure that an appropriate level of protection is in place. Depending on the destination and provider, these measures may include UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.
You may contact us at ipresentyou@icloud.com for further information about the safeguards used.
8. How long we keep personal information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, tax, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements.
Our usual retention periods are:
- Order and transaction records: up to six years after the end of the relevant financial year where required for legal, tax or accounting purposes.
- Customer-service communications: for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the enquiry, complaint or related legal matter.
- Website security and technical records: for as long as reasonably necessary to maintain security, investigate incidents and prevent fraud.
- Cookie and session information: for the duration required for the relevant basket, checkout, account, security or payment function. Some cookies expire when the browser is closed, while others may remain for a limited period.
Information may remain in secure website backups for a limited period before being overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
We may retain information for longer where required by law or where necessary in connection with a complaint or legal claim.
9. UK-only sales
We currently sell and deliver our products within the United Kingdom.
This does not necessarily mean that all personal information remains in the UK, because some website and technology providers may process information in other countries. Please see Section 7 for further information.
10. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.
However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
